Ion Marin

Ion Marin (born July 8, 1960) is a Romanian-born Austrian conductor.
Born in Bucharest, his father was conductor and composer Constantin Marin. He took courses in composition, directing and piano at the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in his native city, leaving Communist Romania in 1986. Abroad, he pursued further studies at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg and at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana. Herbert von Karajan was among his teachers. From 1987 to 1991, he was assistant to conductor Claudio Abbado at the Vienna State Opera. Among the orchestras he has conducted are the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
